Tim Halperin wrapped up “Idol Got It Wrong” this week by taking on the Carrie Underwood song, “Flat On The Floor,” which Lauren Alaina sang last night during the American Idol finale.

Another solid performance from Tim! I thought he added some soul to a very country song. Also, the big notes he hit midway through and at the end of the performance were a couple of my favorite moments.

The music video for David Cook’s lead single, “The Last Goodbye” off his upcoming sophomore album, This Loud Morning premiered earlier this week on iTunes!
The video was directed by Nigel Dick, who has done videos with Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys in the past. What I have always appreciated about Nigel’s videos is the way he uses color. I thought with this video the color hues were interesting, yet still popped.

I really like that David didn’t do a full out performance video, because those can be a bore to watch. I think mixing it up and having a fun storyline shows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Last month the latest Glee DVD hit store shelves called, Glee Encore. The DVD is right around 77 minutes of back-to-back Glee performances from season one. I absolutely love the idea of releasing a DVD like this, because there have been plenty of times when I’m watching Glee where I’ve been so excited to see the performances that I wished I could skip ahead to them.
The way the DVD is set up you can either watch the performances one episode at a time, play them all at once, or you can click “Shuffle” on the menu screen and the performances will play in random order, which I think is a pretty cool feature.
As a fan of Glee, there are performances that I was looking forward to watching on Glee Encore, yet they were nowhere to be found. In particular, the performances I am surprised are not included on the DVD is the mash-up of “Halo”/ “Walkin’ on Sunshine,” the Regionals version of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and Vocal Adrenaline’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
To me it only makes sense to showcase both mash-ups from the “Vitamin D” episode, not just “It’s My Life”/ “Confessions Part II,” because both of the mash-ups were what made that episode stand out.
I feel like “Don’t Stop Believin’” from the “Journey to Regionals” episode should have made the cut for this DVD. The New Directions’ full set list from that episode was “Faithfully,” “Any Way You Want It”/ “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.” To leave off the full circle moment of the season just doesn’t make any sense.
And lastly, the absence of Vocal Adrenaline’s performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” also from the “Journey to Regionals” episode is just disappointing. That was Glee guest star, Jonathan Groff’s shining moment on the show, and was also one of the best performances of the entire first season.
If you can get past the handful of performances that should have been highlighted on the DVD, Glee Encore is actually pretty fun to watch and sing-a-long to. It’s fun to kick back and relive moments from a show that add some “Glee” so to speak to fan’s lives.

Season two of Glee comes to a close tomorrow night with it’s finale entitled, “New York.” Check out what Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith had to say about filming in New York!

Who’s excited for tomorrow night’s episode?
The music from the Glee episode “Funeral” highlighted the cream of the crop from the Glee Cast. The songs from this past week’s episode were in my opinion some of the best technically sung songs out of the entire season.
Amber Riley (Mercedes) took on Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness.” Riley really got the opportunity to showcase her range, as the beginning of the song calls for a more vulnerable quality that we don’t hear too often from the singer. The song builds and builds to where Riley launches into her full voice and just rocks the song out. Riley’s vocals just shine throughout the entire song.
Chris Colfer (Kurt) steps into the spotlight with “Some People” from Gypsy. Colfer injects so much personality into his pitch perfect vocal performance, which makes this song just a joy to listen to. I am so happy that his character is back with New Directions, because Colfer’s fantastic vocal chops finally get their due.
For the second time this season, Naya Rivera (Santana) steps into Amy Winehouse’s shoes. This past episode, she took on “Back To Black.” Rivera really has the perfect vocal tone and inflection to carry out this song. Her greatest strength in her singing is the ability to express emotion in a way that you believe the words she’s singing.
Day two of “David Cook Takes the Bay Area” happened yesterday in San Francisco!
The show took place at Harlot, which is a small, more intimate venue than the room at the Hotel De Anza. I liked the venue a lot. It had this really interesting
ambiance to it.
The show started promptly at 6 p.m. David and Neal came out and jumped right into playing “Heroes.”
In between songs, Marcus D (Alice DJ) would chat it up with David. In the video below they talk about who David thinks will win American Idol this season and what David didn’t expect to happen after becoming a “rock star.”
The set list played out just like the San Jose show. The rest of the songs played were “Come Back To Me,” “Light On,” and “The Last Goodbye.”

I know a lot of people are shocked and upset at last night’s American Idol elimination of Haley Reinhart. I am not one of those people.
I thought that Haley was coming into her own and peaking when she needed to, which I love, because she provided a couple fantastic Idol moments. However, it was obvious from the beginning of the season that Idol was looking for a younger singer to appeal to a younger demographic just based on the contestants that were getting through from the beginning like Jacee Badeaux and Brett Loewenstern. That said, I am definitely not surprised at Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina both moving on to the finale. (Also, just based on the hometown footage alone, I felt like Haley’s package was put together as if it was an afterthought and as a major hint that she was going to be eliminated. Not cool, Idol.)
Wednesday night’s show was pretty good. All three of the contestants kind of had mini-moments.
I thought Scotty made a smart decision singing Lonestar’s “Amazed” as his personal song choice. He showed that he could handle a big contemporary country hit. Plus, who doesn’t just love that song? I thought “She Believes in Me” was an old fashioned and lame song choice from the judges, but Scotty did what he could with it.
I really liked Lauren’s performance of “If I Die Young” by Band Perry, which Jimmy Iovine picked for her to sing. We finally saw some true emotion from her! It was one of my favorite moments of the night.
Haley had three really great songs, but I felt like the only one she completely pulled off was “What Is And What Should Never Be” by Led Zeppelin. She sounded amazing and just rocked it out. I love that her little stumble up the stairs didn’t throw her off at all.
With “Rhiannon,” I thought she sounded like she was mumbling part of the first verse. I didn’t think she really connected with that song well at all, because she was just trying to remember the words. It actually made me really miss Didi Benami’s performance from last season.

Tonight I got to attend the private acoustic Mix 106.5 David Cook Mixxer at the Hotel De Anza.
This was such a treat to attend! I’ve been a longtime fan of David’s since season
seven of American Idol, and I’ve gotten to see him play a handful of times, but I have always wanted to see him play an acoustic set.
David and his guitarist, Neal Tiemann did a short 4-song set for the audience, which included, “Heroes,” “Come Back To Me,” “Light On,” and “The Last Goodbye.”
