Video: Lee DeWyze Performs New Song, “Hummingbird”

Lee DeWyze performed in Madison, Wisconsin last night and debuted a new song called, “Hummingbird.” Watch Lee’s performance below!

“Hummingbird” reminds me of the vibe on Slumberland, which is my favorite Lee album. Soft and sincere. I like it.

What do y’all think of Lee’s new song?

The Voice: Can’t We Keep Them All?

Last night on The Voice, Javier Colon (Team Adam) and Vicci Martinez (Team Cee-Lo) were saved by America’s votes and moved on to the next round. Casey Weston (Team Adam) and Nakia (Team Cee-Lo) were saved by their respective coaches, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and Cee-Lo.

Totally called Adam saving Casey. To each their own. I liked Casey’s performance last week, but Jeff Jenkins was pretty good, too. Actually all of Team Adam was fantastic last week. Moving on…

Frenchie Davis (Team Christina) kicked off the performances with Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” I have to say that I’ve been unfortunately very underwhelmed by her performances on The Voice. I was hoping to get to see her really bust out some crazy notes on this show, but she seems to be holding back, which is probably why America didn’t vote her through to the semi-finals.

Nakia (Team Cee-Lo) was up next performing Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me.” I thought this was an interesting song pick for him. He really has to reel his voice in and keep it under control, or else it sounds like he’s shouting. I thought he did a good job at doing that. But, I don’t think he fully connected to the song, like Adam Lambert is when he performs it. That said, Nakia’s take on the song was alright.

I know Adam Levine said in his feedback that he had never heard the song before, which probably made for some fun @replies on Twitter, but cut the man some slack. He wasn’t rude about it, he just said he didn’t know that song existed.

Adam’s been bouncing around different countries since Maroon 5’s Hands All Over album debuted last September. He also revealed last night that he’s never heard of that song by The Script, which is what made me raise an eyebrow. I think someone needs to take Mr. Levine music shopping, and maybe turn on the radio for him in the car.

Almost Honest & Distant Dice Perform at Left Coast Live 365

This past Thursday, Left Coast Live 365 kicked off at the Theatre on San Pedro Square in Downtown San Jose with bands Almost Honest and Distant Dice.

Distant Dice kicked off the night, and they were just fantastic. I had checked out some of their music prior to the show that night and was only further intrigued to catch their performance at LCL 365.

Check out their performance of “Firewater” below!

Almost Honest closed the show that night, and I was super stoked to finally get the chance to hear what their vibe was like with a full band. It was great to hear songs off the band’s upcoming EP, and it sounds like people will be in for some awesome music when it’s released!

Check out their performance of “Because of You” below!

For those who were unable to come out, you missed a great show from both Almost Honest and Distant Dice. I strongly encourage y’all to check out the bands at their upcoming shows!

Video: Gwyneth Paltrow Performs “Forget You” at Glee! Live!

Holy cow, this is awesome! Gwyneth Paltrow joined the Glee cast last night to perform “Forget You” during their tour stop in East Rutherford, NJ. Check out the video from the show below!

I thought Gwyneth sounded great! I love that she made a guest appearance, since “Forget You” was such a huge hit during season two.

How do y’all think Gwyneth did? And what other Glee guest star or even regular cast member (Matthew Morrison, I’m talking to you!) would you like to see pop up on the Glee! Live! tour before it wraps up in the states?

Video: Matthew Morrison & JC Chasez Perform “This I Promise You” in London

While the rest of the Glee cast is touring the United States, their TV teacher Matthew Morrison has been overseas promoting his new self-titled record.

During last night’s show in London, Morrison was joined onstage by *NSYNC’s JC Chasez to perform “This I Promise You” from the band’s No Strings Attached album.

Check out the video below!

Don’t mind me, I’m just over here all verklempt.

JC could always sing the hell out of that song. He needs another solo album out pronto.  And also, LOL forever at the backing track being *NSYNC’s vocals. I hear you, Chris Kirpatrick!

And for old time’s sake… Continue reading Video: Matthew Morrison & JC Chasez Perform “This I Promise You” in London

Concert Review >> Glee Live! in San Jose, CA 05.25.2011

Last Wednesday, I got my Gleek on with the best of ‘em at the HP Pavillion in San Jose for Glee Live!

Tickets to the show are a bit on the pricey side, especially if you’re making it a family outing. However, as soon as the curtain rises and Cory Monteith (Finn) and Lea Michele (Rachel) kick off Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” as part of the five original members of Glee’s New Directions, you’ll be happy that that you got to witness this spectacle live.

The stage is set up in such a way that there’s a main stage with a cat walk that leads out to another stage area, which leads into the first few rows of the crowd. Also, about three-fourths the way towards the back of the arena, there’s another small stage set up, which featured a couple of the night’s best performances.

The Glee concert set list highlights fan-favorite group numbers like “Born This Way,” “Loser Like Me,” and “Somebody To Love,” as well as wonderful solo numbers from some the main players.

Mark Salling (Puck), Chord Overstreet (Sam), Kevin McHale (Artie), Harry Shum Jr. (Mike), and Darren Criss (Blaine) come together during the show to perform an acoustic version of the Rebecca Black song “Friday.” With both Salling and Overstreet on acoustic guitar, the guys really carved out quite the moment for themselves.

Video: Tim Halperin Covers “Flat On The Floor”

Tim Halperin wrapped up “Idol Got It Wrong” this week by taking on the Carrie Underwood song, “Flat On The Floor,” which Lauren Alaina sang last night during the American Idol finale.

Check out Tim’s performance below!

Another solid performance from Tim! I thought he added some soul to a very country song. Also, the big notes he hit midway through and at the end of the performance were a couple of my favorite moments.

Alright, poll time! Which “Idol Got It Wrong” performance of Tim’s was your favorite? Check out Kidd Kraddick’s YouTube channel for a refresher, if needed!

If haven’t downloaded Tim’s recently released Acoustic Sessions EP or “The Last Song” yet, what are you waiting for? Go grab your FREE downloads at TimHalperin.com!

David Cook Live in San Francisco – Alice 97.3 Acoustic Lounge

Day two of “David Cook Takes the Bay Area” happened yesterday in San Francisco!

The show took place at Harlot, which is a small, more intimate venue than the room at the Hotel De Anza. I liked the venue a lot. It had this really interesting ambiance to it.

The show started promptly at 6 p.m. David and Neal came out and jumped right into playing “Heroes.”

In between songs, Marcus D (Alice DJ) would chat it up with David. In the video below they talk about who David thinks will win American Idol this season and what David didn’t expect to happen after becoming a “rock star.”

The set list played out just like the San Jose show. The rest of the songs played were “Come Back To Me,” “Light On,” and “The Last Goodbye.”

Like yesterday, I recorded “The Last Goodbye.” Check out the video after the cut!
