Wait…WHAT?’s Favorite Songs of 2021

Happy New Year, y’all! I don’t how everyone’s music listening habits fared during 2021, but I found myself leaning into a lot of comfort music from my youth. Though lots of TLC, Boyz II Men, and Britney Spears dominated my playlists, I made plenty of room for 2021 releases.

#MusicMonday: David Archuleta – “Be That For You”

David Archuleta dropped his new single, “Be That For You,” last week, and I already cannot get enough of it!

Here’s what David had to say about his new single on his website:

“It’s been a while since I’ve done a romantic song. We wrote “Be That For You” to be a more light-hearted love song. Wanted it to be vibey and moody yet make you dance. I hope you like it!”

Well…mission: completed. You better believe that I will be dancing it out to “Be That For You” for the foreseeable future!

David Archuleta Parts Ways With Jive Records

After a somewhat cryptic Twitter update from David Archuleta last week that said, “Decisions.. They are scary things before knowing what could happen after you make them, but I’m excited for what the future holds,” there was speculation that Archuleta had been let go by Jive Records.

On Februray 18, a Jive Records representative told The Hollywood Reporter that “David was released from our roster.”

Archuleta took to Twitter again this week to post a video to thank his fans and to explain the decisions that he is making for himself when it comes to his career.

In the video Archuleta said, “There were offers for me to continue working with [Jive], but it didn’t feel like the right thing now.”

Later in the video, he said that he had also parted ways with his management.

“I realized that this is not where I am need to be right now. This is not where I’m supposed to go, what I want to be doing right now, what I want to be focusing on,” he explained.

Archuleta was runner-up to David Cook during American Idol’s seventh season. In the fall of 2008, he sold 183,000 copies of his self-titled debut album in it’s first week out. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 in the number two slot.

Ear Candy: David Archuleta — “Senseless”

Earlier this week, a new David Archuleta track hit the internets called, “Senseless.”

Take a listen!

I have to say, I like it! I really dig the r&b vibe meshed with Archie’s voice. I think it suits him really well. I don’t think it would have fit in well with the songs on The Other Side of Down. However, it would have fit in with the mix of music on his self-titled debut. This track actually reminds me of “Desperate,” which was one of my favorite tracks from his first album.

Maybe it’s just me, but I kind of prefer him doing more r&b style music. He has the vocal chops, he would just need a good pop/r&b producer. Not that his producers aren’t great now, I love the songs Eman has worked with David on. I just think that maybe for his third album he should bring back a little bit more of this type of sound.

So what did y’all think of “Senseless”?

David Archuleta put out his first vlog of 2011 and remained adorable. He also talked for awhile about how awesome his 2010 was.

Nice to get updates from both the guys!

And how awesome did the short clip of “Paper Heart” sound?

Here’s hoping DCook can get his album out soon and that Archie can keep his New Year’s resolution to vlog more!

David Archuleta Performs “The Other Side of Down” on FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live

Being the nerd that I am, I DVR’d three different New Year’s Eve specials to make sure I didn’t miss any music performances, and a surprise favorite of mine was David Archuleta’s performance on FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live of “The Other Side of Down.”

It was the first time I had heard the song ever, and it’s pretty dang catchy! I really enjoyed watching Archie just own the stage. He has definitely come a long way since his Idol days. I definitely want to check out his live show the next time he rolls into town.

That said, check out his performance below!
