Glee: The Concert on DVD includes performances not included in the theatrical release and additional features.
For those of you that didn’t make it out to the Glee! Live! tour last summer, or maybe you just want to relive those memories again, Glee: The Concert arrived on DVD last month.
The majority of Glee: The Concert features fantastic performances from the live show, from Rachel (Lea Michele) & Finn (Cory Monteith) and the rest of the New Directions belting out Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” & Queen’s “Somebody To Love” to Brittany S. Pierce (Heather Morris) taking on Britney Spears, as well as backstage moments with various members of the glee club. There are also true life stories from fans of the show, including Janae, a real life “Cheerio” and Josey, who credits the show with helping her become more social.
Glee fans will definitely enjoy the special features on the DVD, which include two performances that were not shown in the theatrical release, being “Dog Days Are Over” and “Friday.”
Other features include two more full-length performances that were not shown in their entirety in the theatrical release, including “Ain’t No Way,” which is sung by Mercedes (Amber Riley) and the subtle showstopper, “C’mon Get Happy”/”Happy Days Are Here Again,” being the chill-inducing duet between Rachel (Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer). If I could add one more performance to this list, I would have included the full-length performance of the Warblers’ “Teenage Dream,” which was a huge hit for Glee during it’s second season and was a highlight of the live show.
Additionally, there’s unseen footage of Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), onstage antics between Brittany (Morris), Blaine (Darren Criss), and Kurt (Colfer), and backstage footage with the cast.
To keep things interactive, fans can download the free Shazam app to their phones, which allows them to unlock additional features, like extra footage and song lyrics from Glee: The Concert while they’re watching the DVD.
All in all, as someone who attended the Glee! Live! tour, I found that Glee: The Concert on DVD captures the excitement and energy of the entertaining live show, which should have audiences at home singing-a-long.
Glee: The Concert is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
