Wait…WHAT?’s Summer 2011 Playlist

Hello lovely readers! Happy Summer to you all! Every year I always make an iTunes summer playlist with the songs that become my soundtrack, and I thought this year I would share what I’m listening with y’all. Over the past couple weeks I’ve been putting together my playlist of what I have been listening to since summer kicked off.

Since it’s summer, you’re not going to find any ballads on this list. But you are going to find upbeat and fun numbers that probably want to make you dance, or at the very least sing-a-long. You’ll find old songs, new songs, and definitely some of my favorites.

Enjoy Wait…WHAT?’s Summer 2011 Playlist!

“Summertime” – Will Smith: This the quintessential summer song. For me, it’s not summer without the classic Fresh Prince track.

“Right Here, With You” – David Cook: Let it be known that I love David Cook’s new album, This Loud Morning. For me this is one of those songs that you listen to loudly in the car with the windows down and the wind blowing through your hair. Definitely roadtrip mixtape potential with this one!

“Teenage Dream” – The Warblers/Darren Criss: Last summer I felt like Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” was summer rolled up into a fantastically catchy song. Cue Glee giving the song a slight makeover with the ever so dreamy Darren Criss and his kick awesome vocals, and you have a song that I never ever want to go away.

“Stereo Hearts” – Gym Class Heroes feat. Adam Levine: The first time I heard this song, I deemed it the “Song of the Summer” immediately. The chorus of this song, which is sung by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine just gets in your head. I think if you’re someone that relates easily to music, this is probably the track for you!

“Summer Girls” – LFO: Oh yes, I did include this song on my playlist! This has been the jam since 1999! Plus, I can always appreciate a song that kicks off it’s chorus with the lyrics, “New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits…” Definitely a summer must-listen!

“Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind)” – Panic! at the Disco: A month ago, I went from knowing exactly one P!ATD song, to owning all three of their albums after catching their live show in San Francisco. The one song that has turned into my go-to song first thing in the morning is “Ready To Go.” It’s an upbeat, catchy, and all-around fun song. It’s somewhat become my anthem for the summer.

“Give Me Hope” – New Politics: We all have those songs that put us in a good mood, and this is definitely one of those songs for me. It’s upbeat and fun, which is definitely right up my alley.

“Mercy” – Matt Nathanson: This is one of my favorite songs off of Matt’s new album, Modern Love. I just saw him perform last month, and this song was such a crowd pleaser! Matt shows a little bit funk, pop, plus a whole lot of sexy. You can’t go wrong with that combination.

“Alright With Me” – Kris Allen: This would be one of my very favorite songs to bop-a-long to. I had to include the song, because of the summer memories and good times it reminds me of.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

“I Wanna Fall In Love” – Tim Halperin: This is one of those songs that when it pops up in my iTunes it just brings a smile to my face. You truly cannot go wrong with a really sweet love song during the summer. Warm fuzzies for everyone!

“Loving You Tonight” – Andrew Allen: I have only recently jumped onto the Andrew Allen bandwagon after seeing him perform out at Golden GatePark, but I feel like I’ve made a good decision. “Loving You Tonight” is reminiscent of a Jason Mraz kind of vibe, which I think is rad. Plus, any song that requires you to snap it out is all good in my book.

“Because of You” – Almost Honest: Okay, so this song hasn’t been released yet, but I had to include it, because it’s been a song that I’ve been listening to all summer. It’s a big, almost anthem-like track, and it’s one of my very favorites off of Almost Honest’s upcoming EP.

“Get Some” – Tyler Robinson: Tyler was one of my faves on The Voice this season, so I was thrilled when he released a single shortly after the show ended. I love the mix of pop, funk and soul on this track. Plus, you can’t go wrong with a little bit of attitude thrown into the mix.

“Moves Like Jagger” – Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera: If you know me, then you knew a Maroon 5 track was hitting this list at some point. Can’t leave my favorite band out! I love this song; it’s definitely one of my favorites to dance around my apartment to. Plus the combination of my favorite band with one of my favorite singers leaves me quite the happy camper.

“Last Friday Night” – Katy Perry: I tip my hat to Katy Perry. She’s released some of my favorite pop music in the last year. I think that her songs prove that good pop music can be fun and light-hearted sometimes, which makes for great summertime tracks!

So there you have it, my Summer 2011 Playlist!

  1. Listening to Alex Band’s awesome CD from 2010 entitled, “We’ve All Been There!” “Forever Yours” is his latest ‘European single’ to be released from it, and it’s a song that has a great ‘summertime feel’ to it due to the fact that it’s all about 2 ppeople getting married on a beach.
