The Voice is back! Which team are you rooting for?
Last night on the season premiere of The Voice, there was some amazing new talent to be found! From rock voices to pop voices, to the most legit country voice ever on the show, the coaches, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green, had a great selection of new contestants to pick for their teams.
In lieu of live blogs, for the time being, I am going to try to keep up & recap each night’s auditions by team. Up first, Team Blake!
Team Blake
Terry McDermott, originally from Scotland, was the first to join Blake’s team during the premiere.
Singing The Who’s “Baba O’Riley,” Terry exhibited a strong, solid vocal performance. Blake hit his button first, then Adam, followed up by Cee Lo.
Comments from Coaches:
Adam: “Real tried and true rock n’ roll voice. You’re a real rock n’ roll singer.”
Xtina: “Great radio voice!”
Blake: “I think you and I can win this if you just get up there and talk.”
18-year-old Gracia Harrison was the second contestant to join Blake’s team last night.
Her performance of “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart,” showcased her genuine country twang and yodel, and got Adam to hit his button almost immediately after she started singing. Blake was next to push hit button, followed by Cee Lo.
As most know, I’m not a huge country music fan, but I would buy this gir’s album. She’s legit.
Comments from Coaches:
Adam: “By far, you are the best country singer we’ve ever had on this show. It makes no sense for you to be on my team, which is exactly why you should be.”
Blake: “Gracia, you know what the right decision is.”
Team Xtina
De’Borah from Chicago was the first singer to join Christina’s team.
She performed a solid take of Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.” The arrangement had a bit of a straight up pop/splash of reggae feel to it, which was a refreshing take on the song.
Both Christina and Cee Lo hit their buttons right at the end of the performance.
Comments from Coaches:
Xtina: “I thought it was fun!”
20-year-old Devyn Deloera from Texas was the next to join Christina’s team.
Devyn made a bold choice in deciding to tackle one of Christina’s biggest hits, “Ain’t No Other Man.” As a Christina fan, I thought her take was just alright. I probably wouldn’t have pushed my button if I was a coach.
However, Christina did push her button, as well as Adam and Blake.
Comments from Coaches:
Cee Lo: “I loved it, I loved it!”
Adam: “It’s a very ballsy- it’s a very courageous choice, [being that] it’s a Christina Aguilera song.”
Team Adam
Personally, I think Adam got the steal of the night with 22-year-old Bryan Keith.
He’s got this fantastic raspy, rock voice, which was highlighted well during his performance of Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain.”
Blake pushed his button immediately, followed by Christina and Cee Lo, and then Adam.
Comments from Coaches:
Adam: “You are very special, my friend. I’m dying to have you on my team.”
Xtina: “You have a signature voice.”
Joe Kirkland, from Fort Worth, TX is the second contestant to join Adam’s team last night.
He has a well-controlled rock voice and great tone, which was paired well with The All-American Reject’s “Gives You Hell.”
Adam hit his button first, followed by Blake.
Team Cee Lo
21-year-old Daniel Rosa from Riverside, CA returned to The Voice this season after not getting through the blind auditions during season two. Daniel said the experience gave him more confidence to come back and try out again.
He performed an amazing rendition of “Somebody I Used to Know” by Gotye. Easily one of my favorite performances of the night.
Cee Lo turned around first, followed by Blake. Both look thrilled to see him return. At the end of the performance when Adam and Christina were turned around, Adam ran up and gave him a huge hug.
Comments from Coaches:
Cee Lo: “Damn, somebody sounds cool as a *expletive*!”
18-year-old Trevin Hunte from New York got several of the coaches’ chairs to turn during his rendition of Beyonce’s “Listen.”
Christina turned around immediately, Blake turned around during the chorus, Cee Lo turned about midway through the chorus, and Adam decided to pass.
It really seemed like it came down to Christina and Cee Lo, and with his voice, I’m pretty surprised he didn’t pick Christina, because I think she would know exactly how to help him utilize the power in his voice.
